LanScan App Reviews

Great

This app is great to find if there’s intruders in your wifi network!!

It does exactly what it says on the tin and nothing more

This tool scans your network and reports VERY basic information on each device it finds. IP, MAC Address, Hostname, and Vendor. It does it very quickly and returns its results clearly and quickly.

Not reliable

This is a pretty basic program of limited use but with a serious bug. The big problem is that if the network configuration changes after you have run the program, the program does not reflect that situation. So, for example, if a device goes offline and then a different one comes on line and takes the original device’s address, LanScan will show both devices at the same address no matter how many times you rerun the scan. You need to exit LanScan and restart it each time to get accurate results. If you are not aware of the problem, this can be VERY misleading to say the least.

Very very basic

Very basic and ugly.

Can’t spot network interface changes

Not only does it fail to recognize one device replacing another, it also fails to detect network interface changes. For example, if you have an Ethernet interface when you launch this program, it will scan only that interface. Turn on the Airport interface, and it will STILL only scan the Ethernet interface—it won’t give you the Airport interface in the pop-up unless/until you quit and relaunch. Bush league! That said, it will scan your network pretty quickly.

Not worth $4.99

Difference between this and free version is nil. Waste of money.

Awesome

Very fast. Much faster than any other IP scanner I’ve tried. Very simple. I don’t know what everyone else is complaining about.

Does exactly what it is supposed to

This little app is very reliable despite the negative reviews. I undertsand why it does what it does, and as a Mac IT professional who uses this app daily to diagnose and run reports on networks, this does everything it’s supposed to.

Easy LAN scan

Needed a basic scanner to locate the IP address of a Rasperry PI connected to my LAN. Works and it’s free.

Does exactly what it says

Very, *very* useful if you’re trying to get MAC address so as to assign static IP leases, sure beats getting up and running to each and every room with a pencil and paper :)

Pointless Freemium.

I tried to use this to identify the IPs of different devices on my network, but under hostname, all you get is a “Go Pro” message, making this completely useless to me. Programs like this can be found for free on all other operating systems. I would never pay such a high price for such a simple program. Will fnd something else.

It did what I needed it to do.

Great app. New neighbors just activated their internet services - I was changing broadcast channels on all of my wireless devices to get around the neighbor’s interfering devices on the same channels; problem was I couldn’t remember what static IP I had assigned to my access point on the other side of my house. Got on the app store and downloaded this app. 2 minutes later I have a full list of all my connected devices by manufacturer name (in the free version) and I am logging into my access point’s user interface and my home network is blazing fast again. The app did exactly what I needed it to do.

Don’t buy it

I was hoping for much more. It is a really simple program with hardly any features. For $6 I wanted more. In a fit of frustration I purchased this now I want to send it back. What a waste of money

Does not do what developer states ...

This app does not do what the developer states. It allows you to enter or edit the hostname, BUT THEN removes most of the name and replaces it with self promotion to get the (paid) PRO version. For example, at first one of my network devices hostname displayed "DIR-601" but a few seconds later the program changed it to "DIR *** Go Pro! ***". I have another host with the name "DIR-615", but then the app automatically changed that one also to "DIR *** Go Pro! ***". So really it does NOT actually display or allow you to enter the hostname because it goes and changes it. VERY deceptive description above under program features: "… host name (4 max) and vendor associated". IT SHOULD SAY DONT BOTHER CHANGING HOSTNAME BECAUSE IT WILL JUST DEFAULT BACK TO AN AD FOR THE PRO VERSION!

Quick, simple tool for quick, simple tasks

This is a great tool for finding devices and their IP addresses on a simple home network. Its blazing fast, and gives you just enough info. If youve got complex routing/addressing, or need to give fixed names to devices, its not what youre looking for. Ive found it immensely useful for finding addresses for Raspberry Pis, network bridges, etc. I might buy the pro version, even though the extra features arent critical for me.
